AboutOur College

The foundation stone of Tufanganj College was laid on 26th March 1969 by the then District Magistrate of Cooch behar and the name of the college was Tufanganj College and Institute of Agriculture. Later, on 29.11.70 the Institute of Agriculture was taken over by the Govt. of West Bengal and started Farmers' Training Centre. On 02.11.71. the College was renamed as Tufanganj College in a meeting of the College Committee. Further, the aforesaid Committee in its meeting on 17.11.71. decided to start the College from 1971-'72 academic session in anticipation of the Government's approval, with the Principal, seven lecturers, one clerk, two peons, one night guard and one sweeper. The College was inaugurated on 23.12.1971 by the District Magistrate of Cooch Behar. Approval was sanctioned by the Govt. of West Bengal and the University of North Bengal on 24.12.1971 and 12.01.1972 respectively for the glorious start of the college from 1971-'72 academic session. At that time the student strength was 48 for Pre University and 38 for B.A. (Total enrollment being 86).
